HORNELL, N.Y. -- Jake Kenney (Brockport) hit a walk-off single to score Jimmy Latona (Monroe CC) in the 11th inning to lift the Hornell Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Niagara Power in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Maple City Park, Sunday afternoon. The Dodgers improve to 11-3 on the year while the Power are now 8-3.
In the third, Hank Morrison (Mercyhurst) hit a two-run triple scoring Brandon Sandoval (Vanguard) and Thaddeus Johnson (St. Bonaventure) to get the Dodgers on the board. Later the same inning, Spencer Scorza (Cornell) stole second base when an error occurred allowing Morrison to score.
The score remained the same until the Power stepped up in the top of the seventh. Michael Crowley (Huntington University) hit an RBI single to score AJ Hammond (Millersville University) and Tyler Marcinko (Piedmont College) followed Crowley’s lead by hitting a two-out two RBI single tying the score at 3-3.
The Power seemed to be poised to take the lead in the eighth with runners on the corners and one out. Jake Trotman (UMass-Lowell) lifted a fly to center which was caught by Sandoval who fired home to nail the runner at the plate.
Neither team could get on the board until the bottom of the 11th. With one out Latona walked followed by a Jake Marinelli (Mercyhurst) single. One out later, Kenney sent a grounder into the hole at short and beat the throw to seal the win for the Dodgers.
Morrison was the lone Dodger with multiple hits finished 3-5 with two RBI.
Sean Visconti was 3-5 for the Power while Michael Crowley was 2-5 with an RBI.
Jeff Beall (Urbana) earned the win allowing just one hit in his one inning of relief. The Dodgers got a solid start from
Zach Krivda (PS Greater Allegheny) who went 6.2 allowing five hits and three runs while walking three and striking out six. Tyler Slepski (Mercyhurst North East) went 3.1 of three hit relief.
Daniel Twitty (St. Leo) was masterful out of the Power pen striking out five and allowing just two hits in four innings of work.
The Dodgers and Power are back at it bright and early on Monday as they play a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for 11 a.m. as students from Arkport, Alfred Almond, Canisteo Greenwood, and Avoca will attending the game.
